PhD position at the University of Innsbruck, Quaternary Research Group: Dating of rock slope failures and rock scarps using novel and classical optical dating techniques.
The University of Innsbruck (Uibk) is a striving research and teaching institution in the heart of the Eastern European Alps with a strong research focus on alpine environments and processes. As part of the Uibk´s doctoral program Natural Hazards in Mountain Regions, we seek a PhD candidate to investigate rock fall and gravitational slope deformation processes in alpine contexts using optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating techniques.
Duration: 3 years
Start: Summer 2018
Review of the applications will start April 7st and close May 19th 2018.

We are happy to invite you to our annual German Young Geomorphologists' workshop from May 25-27, 2018 in Stadtoldendorf close to Hildesheim. This year we rented the Waldpädagogikzentrum Weserbergland (https://www.landesforsten.de/WPZ-Weserbergland-Haus-25-Eichen.25eichen.0.html) for our workshop. The perfect location for two days of intensive discussions and input.
As in the last three years, we decided again that the meeting will be completely in English and open for young geomorphologists from around the world. We believe the meeting will provide an ideal opportunity to present your current work, discuss problems and receive constructive feedback in a friendly and supporting environment.
- Your BSc/MSc and PhD research presented in oral, spotlight or poster form followed by extensive discussions
- Keynote lectures by Prof. Andreas Lang (Salzburg) and Dr. Peter Fischer (Mainz)
- Field trip to geomorphological highlights of the surrounding area guided by local young geomorphologists from Hildesheim
New this year! This year we will have a new presentation format: SPOTLIGHT presentations! While normal orals focus on presenting your results from more or less finished work (c. 15 min presentation + 5 min discussion), SPOTLIGHTS are a great opportunity to present specific issues you face during research, new ideas or specific questions in a very short talk, which will then be discussed in depth with the group (max. 5 min presentation + 15 min discussion).
Even though the program is quite dense, you’ll find time to get to know the other young researchers and share a beer with them! No worries!
Logistics: Workshop fee will be around 50 € including full board!!!
Registration: Please send the application form to firstname.lastname@example.org until Friday, April 6, 2018. We will send you an e-mail until April 17 to let you know if you can participate. You can find the information, flyer and application form here: http://www.inst.uni-giessen.de/akgeom/?page_id=838
Those of you who are not yet listed with our mailing list feel free to register (email to email@example.com) to receive updates on the meeting in May, information on additional activities of the Young Geomorphologists and interesting posts (job ads, summer schools, workshops, conferences etc.).
Save the date and feel free to share this information by email or advertise this workshop by hanging up the flyer!
Sorry for cross-posting! See you soon!
Cheers, the organization team
